Indication

Asacol HD is indicated for the treatment of moderately active ulcerative colitis (UC). The recommended dose in adults is two 800 mg tablets TID, with or without food, for a total daily dose of 4.8 g. The safety and effectiveness of Asacol HD beyond six weeks has not been established.

How Asacol HD Works
The Asacol HD patented delivery system gets the medicine to the colon where it is needed most.  Asacol HD is proven to help improve UC symptoms, including frequent bowel movements and rectal bleeding. Here is how the treatment works:

• Once swallowed, a special coating allows the tablet to travel through the stomach until it reaches the end of the small intestine and the beginning of the colon.
• At the beginning of the colon, the tablet releases the active ingredient—mesalamine—to work throughout the colon.
• Once released, mesalamine helps reduce inflammation of the inner lining of the colon and rectum.
