Asacol (Mesalamine) Delayed-Release Tablets and
Asacol HD

Each person with ulcerative colitis can experience symptoms differently. We offer two different products for treatment of ulcerative colitis, Asacol and Asacol HD.

Asacol helps treat mild to moderate flares and maintain remission of UC.

Asacol (400 mg) is a sulfa-free 5-ASA medication indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate flare-ups (2.4 g/day) and maintenance of remission of UC (1.6 g/day). It does not contain any steroids.

Asacol HD helps treat flares in patients with moderately active ulcerative colitis.

Moderate UC is characterized by tougher symptoms than mild UC. Asacol HD helps treat these tougher flares of moderate UC. In clinical studies, Asacol HD (800 mg tablets) rapidly decreased the number of trips to the bathroom (i.e., number of bowel movements) in the majority of patients—by three weeks (individual results may vary). It does not contain any steroids.

 

Talk to your doctor about whether Asacol or Asacol HD may be right for your condition.

You should not substitute one Asacol HD 800 mg tablet for two Asacol 400 mg tablets unless directed by your doctor.
